Inside the Box: September Edition

September Coffee Club Box

We are so excited to share our September box with you! This month we added three new roasters to the Tampa Coffee Club family: Latitude 23.5 Coffee & Tea, Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters, and Caracolillo Coffee Mill. The box features three very different coffees; a bold Half Caff, a spicy/peppery blend, and a full bodied Columbian. Each coffee has a very distinct flavor profile and we enjoyed sampling and learning about each one.

Latitude 23.5 Coffee & Tea: Bold Half Caff

  • Roast Level: Full City (Medium/Dark)
  • Notes: Rich, Light Chocolate
  • Process: Wet

About the Coffee: This bold Half Caff is the best of both worlds. We start with two varietals that are both naturally low in acidity, but distinctive in profile. On their own, each of these coffees are exceptional; blended together, they offer the opportunity to enjoy as much – and as often – as desired!

About the Roaster: Latitude 23.5…where coffee comes from. The finest coffees are grown between the Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn, which are located 23.5 degrees from the equator. Latitude 23.5 Coffee have built relationships with their customers, suppliers, and employees based on honesty, respect, and reliability for the past eleven years. They believe strength comes from continuous learning; they seek those opportunities out for their employees and customers. They strive to interact with the community, both local and global.

Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters: Eye Opener Blend

  • Roast Level: Full City+ (Dark)
  • Notes: Spicy, Peppery, Hints of Cedar
  • Process: Washed

About the Coffee: The beans used in our Eye Opener Blend are from the South East Asian Region. They produce a coffee that is thick and heavy with low acidity. The beans are harvested and dried during the monsoon season, which make this a complex but delicious blend.

About the Roaster: Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters was started by Stephen Dorst in 2008. He was passionate about providing Citrus County, FL with a great cup of fresh roasted coffee. Stephen built the counters and cabinets in the Hernando store, including the store’s focal point- the coffee bean bar. The logo is a blue healer cattle dog, named Barney, which was his dog. Stephen tragically passed away only two days after opening. Today, James and Heather Cook follow in Stephen’s footsteps and run Cattle Dog Coffee Roasters; the perfect place “where friends come to meet”.

Caracolillo Coffee Mill: Columbian Supremo Huila

  • Roast Level: City (Medium)
  • Notes: Light Brown Sugar, Wildflower, Honey
  • Process: Washed

About the Coffee: Columbia has a reputation for producing some of the world’s best coffees. This Supremo Huila is grown in the most southeasterly region of Columbia. It is grown between 5,200 – 6,000 feet above sea level. It is wet processed using traditional fermentation, washing with pure mountain water using a series of canals, and it sun-dried on patios.

About the Roaster: Caracolillo Coffee Mill is a third generation, family owned business based in Tampa, FL. The business was founded in 1936 by Anastasio Fernandez (an immigrant from Asturias, Spain) in the small garage of his family home. Anastasio formally retired in 1955 and turned the business over to his son-in-law Eusebio Faedo. Today, the business is operated by Eusebio and his sons, Julian and Michael. CCM started with the espresso blend coffee and have expanded to include Cuban and many other blends.

We hope you enjoy the coffee this month as much as we do! For more information about the roasters we work with, please visit our Local Roasters page.
